A Bit about TCP/IP

Keri Systems' latest advancement in TCP/IP connectivity means you can now connect all your controllers on a network. Unlike previously times, you can now connect slave PXL-500 controllers in addition to the master and still configure the system as a single site.

The LAN-520 TCP/IP connector plugs directly onto any PXL-500 controller. Simply fit an additional NC-485 to each slave controller you require on the network and address the controller as normal. Powering up the PXL-500 controller will also power up the LAN-500 and from here you can configure the LAN-520 using the simple device finder software. Keri Systems recommend a fixed IP address for each controller, this can be provided by the network administrator, if you're unsure about network terminology, speak with us for further assistance.

It’s Just a power supply

Ever found a system operating intermittently or sporadically making strange noises? More often than not, this phenomenon is caused by poor quality power supplies. There are a number of reasons for this such as:

  • Voltages produced by unregulated power supplies fluctuate. If they fall below the required system voltage then the system is unable operate the internal processor correctly
  • High voltages produced by poor quality power supplies can damage controllers
  • Cheap power supplies may not produce a flat voltage causing an electrical noise to be imposed on the system
  • Non-linear power supplies may produce different voltages depending on the load determined by the impedance of the device it's connected to
  • Cheap power supplies may be poorly manufactured causing a short lifespan

A Quality Power Supply From Keri Systems

The noise is killing me!

So you have a brand new proximity reader. It’s wired up, mounted and the power’s on but it just wont work. Here are some curtail tips to ensure this doesn’t happen to you.

  • Always use screened cable. Not Cat5
  • Avoid long runs in parallel with high voltage
  • Always connect the screens of your reader and RS-485 cables to one ground location. Don't connect both ends to ground, this can cause a difference in earth potential and may possibly damage the system
  • Use the correct gauge wire
  • Where possible, install proximity readers and controllers away from strong EMF devices such as power boards, PC monitors, Mains cables and so on.
  • Terminate your wires correctly, solder to join cables and don't over tighten terminal screws
  • Use a good quality power supply
